Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has youth and the backing of the home crowd on his side, but little else. He's heavily limited on clay, sluggish from the baseline and weak on the return, as evidenced by his recent straight-set defeats against Lorenzo Musetti and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Novak Djokovic enters this match after a complicated few months with minimal match play, including a physical breakdown in his lone clay-court appearance against Dino Prizmic in Rome.
However, if Djokovic intends to make a deep tournament run, he needs to economize his energy and wrap up these early rounds quickly.
He has the elite return game required to break Mpetshi Perricard's serve, and he should face few complications on his own service games.
Expect a quick, straight-sets victory for Djokovic.
Pick: Novak Djokovic to Win in Straight Sets (3-0)

Taylor Fritz has had a modest season, as he hasn't even reached the quarterfinals of any major tournaments.
He's played only one match on clay all season, losing 2-0 to Alexei Popyrin. He doesn't prefer this surface, but even so, he's a clear favorite on Sunday.
He's a mature athlete with self-confidence, and he has a nice edge over this opponent.
Nishesh Basavareddy is modest, as he's outside the ATP top 100. He doesn't play well on clay at all, which we saw last week when he lost in straight sets to Jaume Munar. He was recently clearly defeated by Tomas Barrios Vera, 1-6, 4-6.
He loses breaks very easily, and on the return, he isn't threatening. This combination will lead to big problems against Fritz.
I therefore believe that Fritz will prevail 3-0 or 3-1.
Pick: Taylor Fritz -1.5 Set Handicap
