By Derek Carty
Michael Stefanic has only started two games for the Athletics and has gotten a hit in each of them, good for a .375 batting average so far in his eight plate appearances. Obviously, he's not a .375 hitter. THE BAT X projects him for a .258 batting average going forward.
And most importantly, we have a high pinch-hit risk for him. I believe it's 37% — yeah, 37% pinch-hit risk once the bullpen comes in. He's facing a good pitcher in MacKenzie Gore before that. So, yeah, we're looking at the under here for Stefanic.
I was actually surprised when I went to his Baseball Reference page to see how much major league action he's gotten in his career for a guy that has just completely flown under my radar. Three years in Anaheim, apparently. He got 25 plate appearances for the Blue Jays last year. He would have gotten a World Series ring if they had won the World Series.
Two hundred and ninety-seven career plate appearances for Stefanic. Eight so far this year, as you mentioned. He hasn't played much for the A's. Hopefully, he gets in the lineup, does nothing, and then gets pinch-hit for in like the fifth or sixth inning. We can call that one a winner.
Pick: Michael Stefanic Under 0.5 HRR (+125)
