The Tigers are hot. They have won four straight games and 20 of their past 29 matches. Despite this streak, they still sit 4 1/2 games behind the division-leading White Sox and have a 55-58 record.
However, they have the best run differential in the AL Central and the third-best in the AL. Their trade deadline was headlined by the biggest move of the year. Unfortunately, it was they who shipped off ace Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers for prospects.
They also traded Casey Mize, a fellow key piece of the rotation. This would be a major issue for most teams, yet the Tigers are getting former top prospect Jackson Jobe back from the Injured List soon.
Detroit will have trouble in the playoffs without Skubal, but with the offense healthier (and boosted by top prospect Max Clark), they can continue making noise in the regular season to at least get there.
Seattle Mariners Betting Preview
The Mariners are a sleeping giant. They hold a mediocre 55-59 record and a -5 run differential. Regardless, they are loaded and healthy.
The offense has not received much production from key pieces like 2025 MVP runner-up Cal Raleigh or 1B Josh Naylor, while the pitching from George Kirby and today's starter Bryan Woo has been below expectations.
The trade deadline addition of OF Taylor Ward should help the offense, along with the expected regression from Raleigh and Naylor. Most importantly, the pitching will be bolstered with the addition of top prospect Kade Anderson in the coming weeks.
Anderson is not only the Mariners' top prospect, but the top pitching prospect in all of baseball. He is dominating Double-A, with a 1.20 ERA, 36.4% K-BB, and 0.66 WHIP. While he is only 21 years old, he is ready to contribute at the major league level.
The Mariners still have a full, five-man rotation after trading Luis Castillo, but if one of their starters (likely Emerson Hancock) struggles, Anderson can take that spot to push them into the playoffs.
