The Athletics host the Los Angeles Angels on May 19, 2025. First pitch from Sutter Health Park is scheduled for 10:05 p.m. EDT; the game will be broadcast on NBCS-CA.
The Angels are coming off an impressive three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium over the weekend. Jose Soriano is scheduled to start for them on Monday, and he'll be opposed by the A's right-handed pitcher J.T. Ginn.

John Feltman’s Angels vs Athletics Preview
The Angels lineup is underrated, and they delivered over the weekend.
The Halos' offense is humming, even without Mike Trout, with shortstop Zach Neto and catcher Logan O'Hoppe leading the way.
They will face J.T. Ginn on Monday, who has had decent underlying metrics over the last two seasons but is prone to allowing hard contact.
The Halos took care of business against the Dodgers with their bats, and they will look to carry that momentum into tonight's ballgame.
Looking at their lineup, the batted-ball profiles at the top of the order are excellent. The following hitters have an xSLG above .475 against right-handed pitching:
- Zach Neto
- Logan O'Hoppe
- Taylor Ward
- Jo Adell
- Matthew Lugo (limited sample size)
The overall offensive numbers aren't the best, but the Halos' batting average against right-handed pitching is 30 points higher than against left-handers.
Not only that, but Sacramento's ballpark dimensions are highly favorable to hitters.
The offense has a chance to stay hot on Monday, although there is concern they are in for a letdown after a huge series against the Dodgers. Some metrics from Ginn also worry me.
Jose Soriano gets the start tonight for the Angels, and opposing A's hitters have decent numbers off of him in the past.
Soriano has a sparkling 63% ground-ball rate, but the rest of his metrics are subpar at best. He possesses a high-velocity fastball averaging around 97 mph but struggles to limit hard contact. He's also had issues with command, so it's hard to pinpoint what type of performance we will get out of him tonight.
The Athletics have lost five straight games and are now below .500.
However, they have the benefit of returning home to turn things around.
I briefly mentioned tonight's starter, J.T. Ginn. Let's take a deeper look at his metrics.
What jumps off the page is that he has a strong 59% ground-ball rate. That is critical for tonight's matchup, especially since we've seen how hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park can be.
However, he has allowed a 53% hard-hit rate and a 10% walk rate.
The Angels' offense has been inconsistent throughout the season thus far, but this past weekend showed they are beginning to heat up at the plate.
Last season, Ginn showed he can generate strikeouts, but he must limit hard contact and free passes to be successful. He's a tough sell for me tonight against a red-hot offense, but he has the arsenal to pitch well against a team due for a cooldown offensively.
I like the A's offensive matchup against Soriano. He allows too much hard contact, which is a dream for a team looking to snap its five-game skid.
Against Soriano, the following hitters have gone deep against him:
It's also worth mentioning that shortstop Jacob Wilson and first baseman Tyler Soderstrom have excellent batted-ball profiles that should excel against Soriano.
Although they've been struggling, the A's offense can explode.
Angels vs Athletics Prediction, Betting Analysis
I think that the A's will take care of business. A
lthough they have lost five in a row, this game is an excellent buy-low, sell-high opportunity.
I like the matchup for the offense against Soriano, and his metrics suggest he has been a tad fortunate thus far in 2025.
The Halos are flying high after their sweep at Dodgers Stadium, but on Monday, we can fade them off a monster weekend.
I will lock in this moneyline before it climbs any further.
