Angels vs Mariners Preview, Prediction, Betting Analysis
This is my favorite underdog tonight: I'm going with the Angels on the moneyline against the red-hot Mariners.
Let's go over this. Seattle is now tied for the lead in the AL West with Houston. They've won six straight, including last night's extra-inning win against these Angels. I'm high on the Mariners the rest of the way. But I'm fading them tonight. It's a matchup of Yusei Kikuchi against Luis Castillo.
More than anything else, this is a public fade for me. We're looking at 79% of bets on the Mariners tonight, but just 49% of the money indicates sharps are backing the Angels tonight as well. And it makes sense.
Kikuchi has gotten roughed up for a couple of starts in a row now. He's given up seven, five, and six earned runs, respectively, in his last three starts.
Castillo's coming off a really strong start against the Braves last week, but he was fallible for a couple of starts before that.
By most metrics, Castillo's the better starting pitcher here, but it's close. Given that it's close and given that both teams absolutely burned through their entire bullpens in last night's 12-inning game, I think there's enough uncertainty in this matchup to back the underdog here, considering the number we're getting on the Angels.
We got them at +165 this morning, and it's in the +155 to +160 range at most books.
Pick: Angels ML +155 (Fanatics)
