The Arizona Diamondbacks have been one of the surprise teams of the 2023 MLB season so far.

A team that most prognosticators didn't think would sniff the playoffs this year is off to a 20-15 start and enters play Tuesday just a half game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the competitive National League West division.

In the first game of the series with the Miami Marlins last night, Zac Gallen handled business against his former team once again, striking out seven batters on his way to earning the victory.

Can Arizona keep it up tonight or will the Marlins get back in the win column?

The Parlay (+575):

  • Brandon Pfaadt Over 4.5 Strikeouts
  • Jesus Luzardo Over 5.5 Strikeouts
  • Diamondbacks Moneyline

Same-Game Parlay – Marlins vs Diamondbacks

Brandon Pfaadt Over 4.5 Strikeouts

This will be Pfaadt's second career major league start. His first one didn't go so well as he allowed seven earned runs in 4 2/3 innings against the TexasRangers. He managed to only strike out three batters in that game.

However, the Marlins strike out quite a bit against right-handed pitching. The Marlins' projected lineup has a combined 24% strikeout percentage this season. There are six hitters in Miami's projected lineup with at least a 23% strikeout percentage against right-handed pitching this season.

Pfaadt was a big time strikeout pitcher in the minor leagues as he had a 28% strikeout percentage at Triple-A this year before getting the call to the majors.

He should be able to get over this number against the Marlins in the first leg of our Same Game Parlay.

Jesus Luzardo Over 5.5 Strikeouts

The Diamondbacks' lineup isn't as strikeout heavy as the Marlins, but Luzardo is a big time strikeout pitcher. He's gone over this number in three of his last four starts and four of his seven starts overall this year.

Arizona is able to run out a lineup almost completely comprised of right-handed hitters, but that isn't an issue for Luzardo. Arizona's projected lineup has a combined 20% strikeout percentage against left-handed pitchers this season. Luzardo has a 25% strikeout percentage against right-handed batters this season.

Something's got to give here and while the Diamondbacks have a solid lineup, I still think Luzardo will get his strikeouts in the second leg of this Same Game Parlay.

Diamondbacks Moneyline

The Diamondbacks are at home and Arizona is simply the better team at this point. Luzardo is a more established pitcher than Pfaadt, but the Diamondbacks rookie has a lot of potential.

It's also a better matchup for Pfaadt against the Marlins lineup. Five hitters in the Diamondbacks projected lineup have at least a .180 ISO against left-handed pitchers this year and Luzardo has allowed a .190 ISO to right-handed batters. Both bullpens are in the bottom third of the league in ERA so that's a wash.

I'm backing the better team that's at home to bring us home in the final leg of the Same Game Parlay.
