Marlins vs Nationals MLB Betting Preview
By Derek Carty
Editor's Note: This written best bet is a transcription from the latest episode of the Payoff Pitch podcast.
I'm fading Eury Pérez tonight, taking the under on 17.5 outs recorded. The best number on the board is +126 at DraftKings, and willing to play it at considerably shorter odds than that.
The foundation of the bet is a gap between perception and projection. Pérez arrives with the reputation of a young, electric arm, and the market prices him accordingly.
The BatX stuff model doesn't share the enthusiasm. It grades his arsenal as merely okay, and specifically not the same weapon it was before his surgery. That disconnect has made Pérez a repeat fade target in recent weeks, and the results have justified it.
Two situational factors reinforce the play. The move to Washington is a park downgrade for Pérez. And while the Nationals' offense is no longer the unit that surprised people earlier in the season, it retains enough life to work counts and push his pitch total high enough to end the night before the sixth inning is out.
Pick: Eury Perez Under 17.5 Outs Recorded (-109 or Better)
