Two hitters I like are playing on the West Coast tonight in Yordan Alvarez and Jackson Chourio. However, we will begin in Toronto, where the Phillies will be visiting the Blue Jays, and Cristopher Sanchez will look to continue his dominance.
Let's dive into my MLB player props for Monday, June 8.
MLB Player Props Today
- Cristopher Sanchez Under 1.5 Earned Runs (+100, BetMGM)
- Yordan Alvarez Over 0.5 Batter Walks (+100, bet365)
- Jackson Chourio Over 1.5 Total Bases (-126, DraftKings)
Phillies vs Blue Jays Props
Orel Hershiser got to pop some champagne last week as someone finally scored against Sanchez. The Padres ended his scoreless innings streak at 50 and 2/3 innings on a Jackson MerrillRBI single. However, one run was all they would get as Sanchez allowed one earned run or fewer for the sixth straight start, working seven innings in each of them.
Sanchez leads the MLB with a 1.46 ERA and has 103 strikeouts in 86 and 1/3 innings. Strikeouts may be hard to come by tonight as the Blue Jays like to swing early in the count and have a low strikeout rate. However, he has been successful against the Blue Jays over the last few years.
In his last four starts against the Blue Jays, Sanchez has allowed just six earned runs, going under this line in two of them. While the Blue Jays are typically a very dangerous lineup, they are 26th in wRC+ against left-handed pitchers. Vladimir Guerrero typically punishes lefties and is 3-for-10 against Sanchez, but has just three home runs on the year. If Sanchez can keep him in check, he likely shuts down the Blue Jays again.
Pick: Cristopher Sanchez Under 1.5 Earned Runs
Astros vs Angels Props
In June, Alvarez is 10-for-21 (.476) with two home runs and nine runs batted in. Though it may feel like he has hit .400 all season. Alvarez is slashing .316/.431/.650 with 22 home runs and 48 runs batted in. Alvarez is in the top three in the MLB in home runs, RBI, and OPS, but also seventh in walks. Given his importance to the Astros' lineup, it makes you wonder why teams are pitching to him at all.
Alvarez has cleared this line at a 52% rate for the season, but he has drawn a walk in eight of his last 10 games. That includes the last four games, and he may get a free pass for a fifth straight game, considering the matchup. Alvarez has drawn a walk in eight of his last 11 games against the Angels, including three of four games this season.
Tonight, he will face Grayson Rodriguez, who has struggled this season to the tune of a 9.50 ERA. Rodriguez has walked at least two batters in each of his four starts this season, with 11 in total. He has walked Alvarez once in six plate appearances, and even if he does not tonight, Alvarez has already been walked by four different Angels' relievers.
Pick: Yordan Alvarez 0.5 Batting Walks
Brewers vs Athletics Props
Chourio comes to Sacramento with two total bases in five of his last nine games. Surprisingly, two of the misses came over the weekend when he went hitless against the Rockies on Friday and Saturday. He finished the series by going 3-for-6 with two doubles yesterday. Playing in another hitter friendly park, Chourio has another good matchup tonight.
Chourio is hitting .345 against left-handed pitching this season with two doubles and a home run. Tonight, he gets Jeffrey Springs, who he is 1-for-2 against with an RBI double. While left-handed hitters have a higher batting average and OPS against Springs, he has given up 10 doubles and 10 home runs to right-handed hitters in 192 at-bats.
Springs also has a 4.36 ERA this season and the Brewers are fifth in runs scored. If they get to him tonight, I expect Chourio to be a factor. He is also +282 for a double on DraftKings.
Pick: Jackson Chourio Over 1.5 Total Bases
