New York Mets Betting Preview: Slump Continues Despite Stars' Production

The Mets' second-half swoon continued yesterday after they fell 9-3 to the Nationals. With the loss, the Mets have dropped six of their last seven series, losing 16 of 21 games in that span. Star outfielder Juan Soto says the Mets are still a playoff team amid their struggles and for now he is correct. However, they are clinging to a half game lead over the Reds for the final NL Wild Card spot.

Soto has done his part with five props/home-runs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">home runs and a .943 OPS over the last two weeks. Francisco Lindor has been on fire as well as he is 13-for-27 (.481) with three doubles, three home runs, seven runs batted in, and a 1.426 OPS. Yesterday, he led off the game with his 25th home run of the season. It was his eighth leadoff home run of the season, setting the franchise record for leadoff home runs in a season.

Lindor helped the Mets jump out to a 3-0 lead as Sean Manaea cruised through three innings. However, he allowed three of his four runs in the fifth and did not make it out of the fifth inning, leaving with an ERA over five on the year.

Starting pitching has been an issue for the Mets of late. They have a 4.62 ERA since the All-Star and 5.21 ERA in August. They allowed 20 runs in the three-games series against Atlanta last week.

Tonight, McLean will make his second career start. He dazzled in his debut against the Mariners with eight strikeouts in 5 and 1/3 scoreless innings. He just missed out on a quality start as four walks got him up to 91 pitches.

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview: Hot Streak Fueled by Harris, Acuña

The Braves have been surging of late, winning 11 of their past 14 games, including two of three from the Mets. In that span, they are averaging 6.3 runs per game. It certainly helps that they got Ronald Acuna Jr. back last week. He has not homered, but he has scored four runs while driving in two in six games since returning from the IL.

Lately, Michael Harris II has been doing his best Acuna impression. Over his past 30 games, he is hitting .390 with eight home runs, 20 RBI, and a 1.124 OPS. As you might expect, Harris has been great for props of late, although his 12-game hitting streak did come to an end on Wednesday.

Although the bats went cold in the series' finale against the White Sox, they were able to pull out a 1-0 victory. Hurston Waldrep tossed seven shutout innings and has been a revelation for the Braves as he is 4-0 with a 0.73 ERA across four starts.

That comes at a time when the Braves have been searching high and dry for starting pitching after losing Max Fried in free agency and four of their five Opening Day starters.

They have picked up Carlos Carrasco, Cal Quantrill, and tonight's starter, Joey Wentz, off waivers. Wentz has a career 5.35 ERA, but he may have found something in Atlanta. In seven games (six starts) with the Braves, he has a 2.60 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 34 and 2/3 innings.

Mets vs Braves Prediction, Betting Analysis

Over the last two series between these rivals, the over has hit in four of the last six meetings with an average of 11.3 runs per game. Tonight, we only need nine for the over with both teams performing well offensively of late.

Additionally, while Wentz has been pitching well for Atlanta, five of his seven games as a Brave have had at least nine runs with another landing at eight.

A few hitters I like to contribute to the over are Lindor, Harris, Acuna, and Brett Baty.

Pick: Over 8.5 (-115, Fanatics)
