After the three-day All-Star break, which likely felt like an eternity to MLB bettors, we’re back for the second half of the MLB season.
There are only six games on today's slate — including two sets of doubleheaders — but I’m still seeing some value on the board, namely with the Tigers' ace.
Tarik Skubal represents the future for the lowly Tigers, but recently, the lefty has struggled. Since the beginning of June, Skubal has pitched to a 5.88 ERA, with 47 strikeouts in 49 innings. In fact, he’s stayed under this total in nine of his last 11 starts.
Skubal’s matchup today, the A's, possess a below-average lineup from a production standpoint.
However, this Oakland team has made contact against left-handed pitching. The Athletics' 19.8% K% over the last month against southpaws is the seventh-lowest in baseball. And over the full season, Oakland’s punchout rate versus lefties at home sits at a tidy 20%.
It’s a high line for a pitcher who hasn’t been his best of late. Coming off an extended break, I’ll count on the A’s bats to make some contact today.
