TLDR: Back Atlanta to Reign Supreme in Divisional Clash
The Braves will host the Nationals on Saturday evening in the third of a four-game homestand at Truist Park in Atlanta.
32-year-old righty Reynaldo Lopez will take the mound for the Braves, while Washington will send out veteran right-hander Miles Mikolas in an NL East showdown featuring two lineups in scorching form heading into this matchup.
Below, I will break down Saturday’s contest and further provide a “same-game-parlay” (SGP) betting angle that you can take when wagering on this divisional clash.
Braves ML
For the first leg of our SGP for Saturday evening, I feel confident backing the Braves to prevail given a massive perceived edge on the mound for Weiss’ club with the Nats’ Mikolas struggling mightily throughout his 2026 campaign thus far.
In 24 appearances on the mound in 2026, Lopez has been quite reliable for Atlanta both as a starter and out of the bullpen in relief.
The Braves’ 32-year-old has recorded a 3.64 ERA on the season, having surrendered 29 earned runs (ER) across nearly 72 frames on the mound this season.
Though Lopez has not dazzled statistically, Atlanta’s right-hander has been very consistent on the bump and will undoubtedly play a big role in the Braves’ quest for a top seed in the National League with the postseason just a couple of months away.
While the Braves’ righty has been very steady in 2026, his Saturday counterpart could not be further from Lopez’s consistent form on the mound.
In 22 appearances on the mound this season, Mikolas has recorded an atrocious 5.65 ERA, with the 37-year-old having allowed a whopping 64 ER throughout his 102 frames in 2026.
That said, the concerning form of the Nats’ veteran is far from surprising, with Miles having finished a season with an ERA sub-4.20 just once in his last seven years pitching in the Major Leagues.
In addition to Mikolas’ inefficiency on the bump, Washington’s righty is set to take the mound on the road versus a divisional rival boasting arguably the most complete lineup in all of baseball with some impressive versatility from one to nine.
Prior to the 2026 season, I placed a futures wager on the Braves to win the World Series this season, so it is not shocking that I love Atlanta in this spot on Saturday evening with sizable edges both at the plate and on the bump.
I will be backing the Braves on the moneyline, which should provide our SGP with a solid foundation before adding a second leg.
James Wood Over 1.5 HRR
If you have read any of my previous SGP segments, whether for college basketball or baseball, you would know I typically favor pairing two negatively correlated wagers, given the inverse relationship between the two results, which magnifies the parlay’s value on the back end.
That said, I favor backing a Nationals’ hitter to find success at the plate, which should complement our Braves moneyline bet very well.
In this case, I expect Nats’ slugger James Wood to have a huge day offensively versus a pitcher he has previously found success against in the Braves’ Lopez.
In three previous at-bats (AB) versus Atlanta’s right-hander, the Nationals’ youngster has recorded two hits – one of which was a solo home run.
At just 23 years old, Washington’s lefty has already established himself as one of the premier sluggers in all of baseball, with Wood ranking inside the top-10 in several statistical categories, including: 30 homers (5th), 72 RBIs (7th), and a .950 OPS (8th).
According to BARTOLO, a new statistical baseball model generated by Action Network’s Sean Zerillo, Lopez favors throwing his four-seam fastball over any other pitch in his arsenal by an insane margin, with the Braves’ righty relying on his heater at a 54.8% usage rate.
This is far and away Wood’s favorite pitch to slug for power, with the Nats’ youngster absolutely crushing four-seam fastballs left in the zone throughout his first two seasons in the MLB.
Wood has shown exceptional patience in the box across his previous encounters with the Braves’ righty, with the Nats’ lefty having drawn four walks across his seven total plate appearances (PA).
Given Wood’s form at the plate and his having established a definitive edge over Lopez, I expect the 23-year-old to soar over his 1.5 HRR (Hits + Runs + RBIs) on Saturday night.
