Washington Nationals Betting Preview: Lineup Can Contend With Suarez

The Washington Nationals boast one of the youngest and most exciting lineups in baseball. We've seen that young talent flourish in this series: this very green lineup has hung with the top team in the NL East.

This afternoon, the Nats will have to contend with Ranger Suarez, who has been tremendous at generating soft contact. His hard-hit rate allowed and average exit velocity against sit in the 99th and 98th percentile, respectively.

However, Suarez has not missed bats consistently, and that high amount of contact is what can give a young lineup some confidence. While Washington does strike out quite a bit, they will benefit from Suarez's ability to pound the zone, and their aggression should allow them to put the ball in play early in counts.

Suarez has a below-average CSW and an above-average first pitch strike rate. Meanwhile, the Nationals rank seventh in zone swing rate and zone contact rate. That is a recipe for minimal strikeouts this afternoon.

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview: Excellent Matchup Against Irvin

On the other side of this matchup, the Phillies are fully expected to stay hot against Jake Irvin. Philly has been dangerous against righties over the last month, as they rank first in batting average and OPS while sitting in third in wRC+

Those numbers should strike fear into a pitcher like Jake Irvin, who comes into this outing with a 5.30 ERA and 5.50 FIP. Irvin does not miss bats, and nearly half of the contact he surrenders is hard.

That is not a successful combination to take against any team, but with the way Philly has been swinging the bats, we could see a crooked number early in this one.

Nationals vs Phillies Prediction, Betting Analysis

The Phillies are the clear side here, and they are expected to carry a heavy offensive load in this matchup. However, the value is on the Nationals lineup by fading Ranger Suarez.

Suarez has flashed strikeout upside, but has gone under 6.5 strikeouts 68% of the time this season.

Given how aggressive the Nationals are, we shouldn't see him work many deep counts this afternoon and stay under this total once again.

Pick: Ranger Suarez Under 6.5 Ks (-130, Fanatics)

Moneyline

I see no value in the moneyline.

Run Line (Spread)

I see no value in the run line.
