Lakers vs Trail Blazers NBA Preview
Last Monday, the Trail Blazers defeated the Lakers 122-108 in Los Angeles. Deni Avdija led the way with 25 points, four rebounds, and assists, while Jrue Holiday had 24 points, five rebounds, and six assists.
However, that game did not feature Luka Doncic.
Last night, Doncic had his worst game of the season to this point, and he still had a triple-double with 29 points.
Through his first four games, Doncic has averaged 41.3 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 8.3 assists.
With 165 points this season, Doncic has scored the most points of any Laker through their first four games in team history.
The Lakers defeated the Heat 130-120 last night. They might be a bit tired considering the Heat are playing at the fastest pace in the league this season.
Doncic played 38 minutes and shot 1-for-11 from 3-point range. The Lakers have not submitted an injury report as of this writing, but it will be worth keeping an eye on his status.
Austin Reaves and Jake LaRavia are two players who have stepped up for the Lakers this season. Reaves has scored 20 points in every game and is averaging nine assists per game as well.
LaRavia has scored 25 points in two of his last three games while shooting 25-for-32 (78%) from the field in that span. However, his season-low (three points) came against Portland.
Tonight's game may be another track meet for the Lakers as Portland ranks third in pace this season.
Under interim head coach Tiago Splitter, they have built on the defensive culture established over the last few seasons and rank fifth in defensive rating this season.
Adding a defender of Holiday's caliber certainly helps, but he has also been a major boost to the offense.
Back as a primary facilitator, Holiday is averaging 18.2 points and 8.7 assists while shooting 48.2% from the field.
In addition to Avdija, Jerami Grant and Shaedon Sharpe are averaging 17 points per game as well.
Grant is leading the league with 20.7 points per game off the bench. He is in reach of 50/40/90 shooting splits to begin his season.
Lakers vs Trail Blazers Prediction, Betting Analysis
Jrue Holiday is coming off a 4-for-13 game from the field against the Nuggets.
He still had 11 points and 13 assists, which would clear his PA line tonight. Holiday has recorded at least 24 points and assists in five of his first six games this season.
He has had at least six assists in every game this season.
Though his season-low in assists (six) came against the Lakers, he made up for it with 24 points to comfortably clear his combo line.
The Lakers are also allowing 23.3 points and 10.1 assists per game to point guards this season, which should help Holiday clear this line once again.
A few assists apiece may go to Avdija and Grant. Avdija has recorded 26 points and rebounds in all six games this season and nearly got there on points alone against the Lakers.
Grant has scored 16 points in every game this season, including 22 against the Lakers.
I will close out this parlay with Reaves, who has scored 20 points in every game this season and may take on a more prominent role if Doncic sits tonight.
Pick: Jrue Holiday Over 23.5 Points + Assists (-120, bet365)
