Kentucky vs Tennessee Game Preview
Kentucky Wildcats Betting Trends
In one of the bigger surprises of this college football season, the Wildcats have emerged as one of the best teams in the entire country in head coach Will Stein’s first year at the helm.
Kentucky senior QB Kenny Minchey has been phenomenal in his first season in Lexington after spending three years at Notre Dame and throwing the ball only 30 times there.
Minchey has thrown for 1755 yards and 14 touchdowns over the Wildcats’ first eight games this season with just one turnover.
Freshman WR Kenny Darby has been Minchey’s favorite target with over 500 yards and three touchdowns.
Stein’s rushing attack has been effective too, with senior tailback CJ Baxter rushing for nearly 500 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Wildcat offense is averaging just shy of 33 points per game this season, but will get its most difficult test on Saturday against an elite Tennessee pass rush.
Kentucky’s defense has thrived under defensive coordinator Jay Bateman, who has built an aggressive, havoc-creating unit that has fared well against some elite SEC offenses this season.
The Wildcats lead the SEC in interceptions and pass breakups, boasting an elite secondary led by veteran safeties Ty Bryant and Jordan Castell.
While its front seven struggled early this season, Kentucky has improved drastically in the trenches over the course of the season.
The 8th-ranked Wildcats are in a great spot to potentially qualify for the playoffs, but still must face several difficult conference opponents, starting with the Vols in Week 10.

Tennessee Volunteers Betting Trends
The 16th-ranked Volunteers put their postseason hopes on the line as Josh Heupel’s bunch looks to evade a third loss this season that would very likely ruin their playoff resume.
After a very promising 6-1 start to the season despite an ongoing QB battle between George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon, Tennessee was defeated on the road at South Carolina this past weekend for the Vols’ second loss of the year.
Now they face a must-win game, with lingering questions about whether Heupel will stick with MacIntyre under center or return to top-ranked freshman QB Brandon.
Regardless, betting markets have made their stance quite clear, with Tennessee currently listed as a near-touchdown favorite despite the Wildcats' breakout 7-1 campaign.
While WR Mike Matthews has recorded over 500 receiving yards this season, Tennessee has relied far more on its rushing attack, with tailback DeSean Bishop rushing for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns, ranking sixth and ninth in all of college football, respectively.
However, the Vols’ defense has thrived all year, particularly at home, where it allows SEC opponents the third-fewest PPG in the conference (16.25).
Jim Knowles was brought in as defensive coordinator this past offseason after serving in the same capacity for Penn State, and has significantly improved a unit that fell to 81st in the country in EPA (Expected Points Added) last season.
Tennessee’s defense boasts an elite linebacker corps ranked in the top 10 nationally, featuring Edwin Spillman, Amare Campbell, Arion Carter, and Jeremiah Telander.
While the Vols’ defense has carried this team for most of the season, especially at home in Knoxville, their offense will need to show up in this matchup, given how impressive Michey has been at avoiding turnovers.

How To Bet My Kentucky vs Tennessee Pick and Best Bet
I expect this to be one of the best matchups in an absolutely loaded Week 10 slate.
While I have been very impressed with the Wildcats offense and a much-improved defensive unit, I expect the atmosphere to be quite chaotic given how difficult it is for SEC foes to escape Neyland Stadium in Knoxville with an outright victory.
The Vols boast an extremely dominant pass rush that should give Kentucky’s offensive line fits considering how much that unit has struggled to contain elite edge pressure.
That said, I feel betting markets are giving Tennessee a tad too much credit given their fragile situation at QB.
In what I expect to be a pretty closely contested matchup, I'm going with the Volunteers moneyline.
I got it at -210 earlier this week as soon as the line opened, and while I typically don't lay that much juice on a moneyline, especially considering the volatility of betting college football, I have confidence Tennessee gets the outright win, but laying close to a touchdown versus a red-hot Wildcat bunch is far from ideal.
Though Tennessee’s moneyline has since crept up to -230, I still don't mind playing the Vols at that number.
Pick: Tennessee ML (-225, FanDuel)
