Browns vs Titans NFL Week 7 Preview
I have never seen so many people rush to praise a quarterback for completing meaningless short passes quite like they have with Deshaun Watson.
Let's look at the actual metrics: Watson has been awful.
I know the box score shows seven touchdowns against two interceptions on the year — but if you look under the hood, he has just six big-time throws compared to a staggering 11 turnover-worthy plays.
The turnovers are coming for Watson. He struggles picking up the blitz, his eyes drop at the first sign of pressure, and he takes way too many negative plays. He currently ranks last in the NFL in pressure-to-sack ratio.
The Browns also can't run the ball at all, forcing Watson into obvious passing situations.
Defensively, Cleveland is an entirely different unit when it leaves Huntington Bank Field. The Browns play out of their skull at home, but on the road, they are allowing 25.5 points per game compared to 17.5 at home.
The Browns are coming off a wildly lucky upset win over Baltimore where a Derrick Henry fumble gifted them a short-field touchdown. Otherwise, they weren't even sniffing the end zone.
If you are looking for the grossest betting game of the entire week, this is your undeniable winner.
The Titans are catching points at home for a reason: their offense leaves a ton to be desired.
Cam Ward has been terrible, but the one saving grace is that he is incredibly conservative. He is essentially playing three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust football in the passing game. He doesn't take bad sacks, and he generally protects the football.
While Tennessee's secondary is undeniably poor and represents the easiest path for the Browns to attack, you still need Deshaun Watson to execute down the field without making a mistake, which he simply has not proven he can do.
On the other side of the ball, the Titans defense quietly ranks inside the top 10 in overall sack rate.
Against a quarterback who routinely holds the ball too long and walks himself into sacks, Tennessee's defensive front should be able to generate crucial negative plays to kill Cleveland's drives.
Browns vs Titans Prediction, Betting Analysis
I basically make this game a pure coin flip on a neutral field, so getting a point and a half at home in a game with a total sitting in the mid-30s is statistically significant.
The Browns are in a terrible situational spot coming off a lucky upset and looking ahead to Pittsburgh in Week 8.
Deshaun Watson as a road favorite is an auto-fade for me. He will take drive-killing sacks against this Titans front and inevitably throw a turnover-worthy pass that finally gets picked off.
Expect a gross, low-scoring rock fight.
Pick: Titans +1.5 (-110)
