The regular season was a mixed bag for the NFL Luck Rankings.
- Unlucky teams in Luck Matchups that met one of our three criteria were 26-22 (54.2%) against the spread (ATS).
- Luck Totals, however, went just 22-23 (48.9%).
That means luck-based sides had their third profitable regular season out of four since I started the Luck Rankings in 2022. Totals, on the other hand, had their first unprofitable regular season in those same four years.
Thankfully, the Luck Rankings have also been effective betting sides and totals in the playoffs. Of course, you must always consider factors other than just the Luck Rankings, but they're a great place to start when handicapping playoff totals.
In the Wild Card Round, luck-based sides went 0-1 with Green Bay failing to cover against Chicago despite winning the Expected Score battle 23.3 to 23.1, rendering the Luck Rankings unlucky on that one. That moved luck-based sides to 26-23 (53.1%) ATS.
Luck totals went 2-0, with both weak Luck Unders staying under the closing total, moving luck totals into positive territory on the year at 24-23 (51.1%).
However, if we look at Wild Card Weekend as a whole, using the playoff trends on Luck Totals, where any positive Luck Total counts to the over and any negative Luck Total counts to the under, then overs went 2-2 to the over while unders went 2-0 to the under. That moves playoff Luck Overs to 21-14-1 (60%) to the over and playoff Luck Unders to 36-21 (63.2%) to the under.
