Tigers, Rockies Picks & Best Bet
Tonight’s game at Coors seems to be a little overlooked, considering it features two of the most hyped pitching prospects in the sport in Jackson Jobe and Chase Dollander.
Jobe isn’t really missing bats right now and is allowing a ton of contact. Granted, it’s not a lot of hard contact — as evidenced by his .224 BABIP and his 3.38 ERA — but his swinging strike rate is just 8%.
He’s simply struggling to miss bats this season like many expected him to at the MLB level.
Dollander has kind of been the inverse of Jobe. He’s striking plenty of batters out, but when hitters put the bat on the ball, it’s hit really hard and really far.
I feel bad for the young flamethrower, who’s getting a crash course in what it’s like to pitch for a bad franchise in a stadium that kills pitching.
The Tigers are obviously the better team tonight, but the pitching matchup is pretty close, despite Dollander sporting an ERA around three runs higher.
By Deserved Runs Average, Dollander is two runs lower than his actual ERA, while Jobe is about a run higher, so they’re essentially even there.
This is also a good fade-the-public spot.
The Rockies are never a fun team to bet on, and when you do, you generally want to be getting +200 or so to stomach wagering on the worst team in baseball. They’re only in the +150 range, but as of writing, we’re looking at about 94% of the bets and 98% of the money going to Detroit tonight.
That’s all good enough reason for me to take a stab on the Rockies, splitting a unit between both halves.
