Astros vs Yankees MLB Betting Preview
The Astros will look to avoid losing their fourth consecutive series on Thursday and are just 10-12 in August. Despite holding a worse record than the third Wild Card seed, Houston remains in playoff position with a half-game lead over the Rangers, as the AL West race has become a pillow fight.
Though Hayden Wesneski has not been dominant, having him back in the mix has still added some stability to a rotation that ranks 28th in MLB with an ERA of 5.17 this season. Throughout his first five starts, Wesneski has pitched to an xERA of 3.82 and a 4.49 xFIP, with a strikeout-minus-walk rate of 10.6% and a Pitching+ rating of 99.
Over a fairly lengthy sample, the Astros lineup has hit right-handed pitching quite effectively, but the results have remained mediocre because of the team's poor pitching.
Since June 1st, the Astros have held a wRC+ of 110 versus RHP and have walked at the 10th-highest rate in MLB. Aside from Carlos Correa, who has missed the majority of the campaign, the lineup should be at full strength Thursday.
After a lengthy stretch of offensive struggles, the Yankees offense seems to be picking up a little steam, as they have recorded 34 hits over the last three matchups and a wRC+ of 134 over the last seven days.
Deadline acquisition Luis Garcia Jr. has been a very useful pickup with a wRC+ of 152 in the month of August, while Jazz Chisholm is also living up to expectations, and with Cody Bellinger back in the mix, the Yankees lineup is starting to feel much longer.
Gerrit Cole has pitched to an xERA of 3.29 and an xFIP of 3.00 throughout his last ten starts. He holds a Pitching+ rating of 108 in that span and a K-BB% of 25, as well as an xBA of .239.
New York's deep bullpen has remained in great form over the last month of play, as it ranks second in MLB with an ERA of 3.04 and ranks sixth in xFIP.
After an off-day Monday and six solid innings from Elmer Rodriguez on Wednesday, the unit is fairly well-rested and will offer strong support behind Cole in this matchup.

Astros vs Yankees Pick, Betting Analysis
While Cole has been in strong form of late, the Astros lineup will provide a tough challenge in a matchup where Yankee Stadium is expected to offer favorable batting conditions.
Based on the combination that Houston could hit Cole fairly effectively, and the fact that the Yankees are not desperate to stretch a key arm, a price of +124 for Cole to exit before the end of the sixth inning looks to provide value.
Pick: Gerrit Cole Under 17.5 Outs (+124, DraftKings | Play to +114)
