On this Monday, the World Cup will have the eyes of many as the knockout stage begins. However, there is still a 13-game slate in the MLB. Three hitters that I like are T.J. Rumfield, Ketel Marte, and Mookie Betts.
Let's dive into my MLB player props for Monday, June 29.
MLB Player Props Today
- TJ Rumfield Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100, bet365)
- Ketel Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases (+108, DraftKings)
- Mookie Betts Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110, BetMGM)
Marlins vs Rockies Props
As a team, the Rockies traditionally hit better at Coors Field, but this year they have fared a bit better on the road. Most notably, Hunter Goodman is hitting .284 with 18 of his 25 home runs on the road. While Goodman is likely to be the Rockies' All-Star representative, others like Rumfield have gone under the radar.
Rumfield is now hitting .304 on the road and the weekend series certainly helped as he recorded six hits against the Twins. He extended his hitting streak to 11 games and he has recorded a hit in 16 of his last 17 games. He has five home runs in that span to give him 12 on the year. Rumfield may not be impressing StatCast too much, but his consistent production at the plate has resulted in a .294 batting average, .863 OPS, and 2.4 WAR.
Back home tonight, he faces Sandy Alcantara and the Marlins. Though a former Cy Young Award winner, Alcantara is not immune to giving up traffic with a 1.24 WHIP. While he has given up a nearly identical batting average to both sides of the plate, left-handed hitters have hit for more power against him with 21 of the 29 extra-base hits, including nine home runs, coming against left-handed hitters.
That should benefit Rumfield, who has been money with his props of late. He has recorded two total bases in 13 of his last 17 games (76%) while averaging 2.9 per game. I like him to get there again at home.
Pick: TJ Rumfield Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100, bet365)
Giants vs Diamondbacks Props
The Diamondbacks were swept in Tampa Bay over the weekend and had a really tough matchup yesterday. Drew Rasmussen pitched six shutout innings and allowed just three hits while striking out five. Marte went 0-for-2 with a hit by pitch against Rasmussen and I avoided most Diamondback hitters as Rasmussen has a .191 opposing batted average allowed. However, that proved to be a mistake as Marte homered in the eighth inning and accounted for Arizona's only run.
For Marte, it was his 15th home run of the year and the 14th time in his last 16 games that he has recorded a hit. In that span, he is hitting .292 with five doubles, three home runs, eight runs batted in, and a .860 OPS. He has recorded two total bases in 12 of those games and that is a trend that I expect to continue tonight.
While Marte is hitting .262 on the year, he is hitting .481 against the Giants with two doubles, three home runs, and 12 RBI in six games. He has recorded two total bases in all six games that he has played against the Giants this season and had two hits in four of them. He is also 8-for-15 (.533) with three doubles, two home runs, and five RBI against Tyler Mahle.
Last Wednesday, Mahle pitched 5 and 2/3 shutout innings against the Athletics, but that has been a rare occasion this season. Mahle has 5.49 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and has allowed nine earned runs in two starts against the Diamondbacks this season. With five of Marte's hits against him going for extra bases, we may be able to extract more value. He is +148 for an extra base hit and +348 for a home run on DraftKings.
Pick: Ketel Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases (+108, DraftKings)
Dodgers vs Athletics
While Betts remains a valuable player (1.7 WAR this season), he has started to show some signs of decline at the plate. He had a .732 OPS last season and is sitting at .737 this season, well below the .876 mark for his career. However, he has been reminding everyone of the dangerous hitter that he has always been of late.
Last Wednesday, Betts hit the 300th home run of his career against the Twins. He added 301 and 302 on Friday and Saturday before a multi-hit game on Sunday. Betts is hitting .358 with five home runs and eight RBI over the last two weeks and he has recorded two total bases in each of his last five games.
Tonight, he will face A's rookie left-hander Gage Jump, who has dazzled this season with a 2.04 ERA in 35 and 1/3 innings. However, his best work has been on the road, where he has a 0.49 ERA compared to 3.71 at home. While Jump has been adequate at home, particularly for a rookie, he faces a tough task tonight.
Sutter Heath Park is hitter-friendly in general, but Ballpark Pal rates it as the second-most favorable park for hitting tonight. That is not a great time to be facing the Dodgers lineup. Betts is one of the Dodgers' that offers some value at +425 for a home run. Given his history against left-handed pitching, I like his chances to stay hot tonight.
Pick: Mookie Betts Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110, BetMGM)
