Pistons vs Magic NBA Playoffs Game 3 Preview
Orlando Magic Betting Preview, Analysis
Honestly, I'm unfazed by the Magic getting blown out in the second game of this series. In hindsight, Orlando was destined to get run off the floor in that spot. I’ll be the first to admit, I think I got caught up in the general flow of the playoffs and didn’t properly account for the fatigue stemming from their play-in tournament journey.
Looking back at the schedule, Game 2 was the Magic's fourth high-leverage game in a single week. Think about the gauntlet they just ran: they were the 8-seed, so they had to travel for that 7-vs-8 play-in game, and they lost a heartbreaker. Then they had to turn right around and play a do-or-die game against the Hornets.
The Magic played great against Charlotte, and then stunned the Pistons in Game 1 — but then they had to face Detroit again in Game 2 on the road.
At that point, you are asking a team to maintain that playoff intensity for the fourth time in seven days against a Pistons team coming off a loss on their home floor. Orlando simply played too many high-stakes games in too short a window and finally hit the wall.
But now? The setting changes, the Magic have had a second to breathe, and I still absolutely love the way they match up with the Pistons.
Detroit Pistons Betting Preview, Analysis
Let’s look at Detroit for a second, because the Game 2 result is lying to you. Even in a massive blowout win, the Pistons still have a glaring offensive problem. They only mustered 98 points.
Think about that—you dominate a game, you run the other team off the court, and you still can’t even crack triple digits? That tells me the ceiling for this Pistons offense is incredibly low. Their role players have been flat-out awful so far.
The biggest red flag for Detroit is the three-point shooting, which has been nonexistent. Specifically, look at the corners. They are shooting just over 20% from the corners in this series. Those are supposed to be the easy threes, the release valves for the offense — and they can't buy a bucket from there.
When your role players aren't hitting the most efficient shots on the floor, you're living on a prayer.
Pistons vs Magic Pick, Betting Analysis
The Magic have the defensive blueprint to make this a long series. They have bottled up Jalen Duren for two straight games now. If Orlando can keep Duren and Cade Cunningham in check, Detroit doesn't have the secondary playmaking to hurt you, especially with their shooters clanking everything from the corner.
I think the market is overreacting to a "fatigue" result. My numbers suggest we’re getting about two points of value on the Magic here because of the Game 2 scoreline.
In a series where the Magic actually have the better defensive matchups and the Pistons can't score 100 points, even when they’re winning by 20, getting points with the home underdogs is the only way I want to play this.
I expect a much different energy tonight at the Kia Center in Game 3 today. The Magic are fresh, they’re home, and I'll back them to cover the spread in this spot.
Pick: Magic +2.5 (-110)
