Trail Blazers vs. Spurs
Th Spurs kick off their playoff run against the Trail Blazers on Sunday night, and I’m looking for Stephon Castle to excel in this spot.
Castle has improved significantly as the season has progressed, averaging 7.4 assists on the year. Over his last 12 games, however, he has seen a spike to 9.4 per game, clearing this mark in 10 of those 12 contests.
The Blazers play at a rapid pace—the eighth-fastest in the league—and they love to run. While I doubt they can dictate the tempo entirely, the Spurs will certainly be able to push in transition.
Castle averaged only 30 minutes per game this season, but considering it’s the playoffs, I expect that to be his floor with significant potential for an extended run.
This is partly a matchup play, and partly a bet on increased opportunities.
Pick: Stephon Castle Over 7.5 Assists (+100)
76ers vs. Celtics
Derrick White has crushed the Sixers in the past, going a perfect 4-for-4 against this line this season and clearing it in 11 of his last 12 matchups with Philly over the last few years.
While Jayson Tatum’s return shifts the usage, I expect Joe Mazzulla to tighten the rotation for Game 1, giving White a high minutes floor.
Some might fear a blowout with Joel Embiid ruled out, but the data suggests White is "blowout-proof." He’s cleared this over in 13 of 21 games with a double-digit spread this season and in 15 of 17 wins of 20+ points.
Whether this is a contested battle or a Celtics avalanche, White’s fingerprints will likely be all over the box score.
