NBA Playoffs First Round Prediction: Trail Blazers vs. Spurs

Victor Wembanyama's first playoff run with the (2) Spurs starts with a first-round series against the (7) Portland Trail Blazers. Despite being led by Deni Avdija, the Trail Blazers are underdogs in this matchup.

Throughout the 2025-26 season, the Spurs matched up against the Trail Blazers three times and won two of those three games.
  • Nov 26, 2025: SA 115, POR 102
  • Jan 3, 2026: POR 115, SA 110
  • Apr 8, 2026: SA 112, POR 101
Notably, when the Spurs lost on January 3rd, Wembanyama was injured and didn't play.
From a matchup standpoint, Wembanyama is a true game-changer on the defensive end and is projected to go over 2.5 blocks in Game 1.
The Trail Blazers' three-point shooting percentage is quite bad. In fact, it's tied for the fourth-worst in the NBA, so they'll likely try to finish inside, which plays right into Wembanyama.
