Novak Djokovic returns to the ATP Tour on Tuesday when he takes on Marton Fucosvics for a place in the third round of the Rolex ATP Masters.

The world No. 1 will be playing his first match since his upset defeat in the final of the US Open, which came against Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic entered that final with a chance to complete one of the rarest feats the sport has to offer — a calendar grand slam — but nerves clearly got the better of a man who never seems to be impacted by pressure and he fell apart.

Though grand-slam events are the pinnacle of tennis, one of the next best things for players like Djokovic is to earn the "year-end" No. 1 ranking. This means you're the player that amassed the most ranking points in a calendar year.

Paris will serve as a destination where Djokovic can achieve the accomplishment for a record seventh time. There are a number of scenarios in which Djokovic can secure the feat, but essentially if he can match Medvedev's result at the tournament it will get the job done.

Djokovic reached the second round by virtue of a bye, but he'll be familiar with his opponent, Marton Fucsovics. The Hungarian has played and lost to Djokovic three times throughout his career.

Interestingly, Fucsovics has battled well in each of those contests, taking a set off Djokovic at the US Open and in Doha, as well as pushing Djokovic hard at Wimbledon earlier this year.

With Djokovic entering the contest after a lengthy period of rest, it will be interesting to see how he plays at the beginning of the match. His training regimen has been documented thoroughly, but match fitness and form can really only be gained in true tournament settings.

Rather than bet the match, this is a great opportunity to get a feel for where Djokovic is at right now.
