Sacramento Kings Preview

Sacramento is walking into a very difficult spot tonight against a motivated San Antonio team. Looking at how the Kings match up defensively, they will have to rely heavily on Maxime Raynaud to guard Victor Wembanyama.

Since Raynaud is Wemby's French teammate, they have plenty of reps against one another. If any defender on this Sacramento squad is familiar with Wembanyama's tips and tricks, it's him.

However, even with that familiarity, slowing down a generational talent when he has a point to prove is a different task, and the Kings defense will be tested for a full 48 minutes.

San Antonio Spurs Preview

On the other side of the floor, it is easy to look at the Spurs' raw offensive metrics and feel underwhelmed. Right now, they rank 19th in the NBA in points per game, averaging just 112.

But, you have to look at the context of who they have played to start the season. They have gone up against Dallas, Houston, and OKC. Two of those teams—the Rockets and the Thunder—have elite defenses, which has naturally kept that scoring average down.

When San Antonio finally got a slightly softer matchup against Dallas, the offense came alive, ultimately winning that game by 16 points.

More importantly, we are getting a fired up Wembanyama tonight. In that game against the Mavericks, head coach Mitch Johnson actually sat Wemby on the bench in the second quarter because he wasn't happy with how the team was playing.

That shows incredible gumption from Johnson; he isn't handling his superstar with kid gloves. It woke the team up, and I am guessing Johnson also lit into their tails in practice.

Expect a highly focused, aggressive Spurs team to take the floor tonight.

Kings vs Spurs Pick, Analysis

I am laying the massive number with the Spurs tonight at -17.5. I know a lot of folks will look at the board, see a spread pushing 18 points, and immediately get scared off.

You hear it every week: "That's too many points." But in betting, the number is the number, and you can't let big spreads scare you off if the math supports them.

My personal power ratings project San Antonio at -18.8. We are getting over a full point of value here, and I expect this number to continue climbing as tip-off approaches.

I think this line will close at 18.5, so grabbing it now at 17.5 is a fantastic spot. San Antonio should be able to blow this game wide open.

Kings vs Spurs Trade: Spurs -17.5 (52 cents, Kalshi)
