  • While most NFL bettors are focused on the Thanksgiving slate, sharps are already betting Patriots vs. Texans on Sunday Night Football.
  • Learn more about how this early action has caused oddsmakers to significantly move this point spread.

One day removed from the conclusion of Week 12, most bettors have turned the short page to a three-game NFL slate on Thanksgiving.

And while those games will remain the focus of recreational bettors for the next couple days, sharps are taking in the entire Week 13 slate.

As for the game taking in the heaviest dose of early sharp action, it also happens to be the game that will eventually draw the most overall betting action: a Patriots vs. Texans showdown on Sunday Night Football.

Patriots vs. Texans Odds, Sharp Betting Pick

  • Spread: Patriots -3 (-115)
  • Over/under: 44.5
  • Kickoff time: 8:20 p.m. ET
  • TV channel: NBC

The obvious eye-catcher is the seemingly low point spread. Sure, the game is in Houston, but at 10-1, the Patriots sure feel like they should be favored by more than three points over a team they're three games ahead of in the AFC playoff picture.

Oddsmakers felt that way too — initially, anyway. This line opened at New England -4.5, but thanks to sharp action on the underdog, it's come all the way down to the most important number in NFL betting.

That movement has come with only 21% of bettors taking the Texans since the line was released, which gives no reason for oddsmakers to feel any sort of liability on Houston, especially since those bettors have generated 40% of actual money.

That bet-vs.-money discrepancy does, however, reveal how bigger bettors — those more likely to be sharps — are playing the spread. And Sports Insights' Bet Signals confirming that in this case, those bigger bets have certainly been coming from sharps.

Six signals, which track and record instances of market-moving line movement as a result of professional action, have hit this game already, and all six have landed on the Houston spread, driving this line down to its current number.

Being the second-to-last kickoff on the entire slate, there's obviously still plenty of time for the market to continue taking shape before this game. If the early sharp action is any indication, a spread of Houston +3.5 won't last very long if it is to return.
