Wyoming vs UNLV Week 10 College Football Late-Night Preview
Wyoming Cowboys Betting Trends
Wyoming has been a much more consistent and cohesive team since coming off a 28-0 loss at NDSU in early October, as the offense was tinkered with and more freedom was given to quarterback Tyler Hughes. What was a stagnant, stale offense with zero creativity in its playcalling has morphed into a dynamic attack unit that features quarterback run, deep shots, and plenty of tight ends.
Wyoming has a chance to completely shake up the makeup of the conference championship race in the Mountain West Conference, and a win here against UNLV gives the Pokes a clear path to get there.
Hughes leads the Cowboys in rushing with 605 yards and six rushing touchdowns, and he is throwing the ball a lot better the last three weeks. The tight ends are still the primary weapons in the pass game, with Jake Wilson and Kyle Frendt catching passes for 458 yards combined.
This is still not a high-flying passing offense, but the dynamic looks and mismatches created with the tight ends have allowed the Cowboys to have their best two offensive outputs of the season in the last two weeks. Tote Harris and Markell Holman are a great combo at running back, and this offense will have success here against UNLV.
The defense was gashed on the ground against Air Force and also struggled against the power run schemes of NDSU and Central Michigan. These are different looks than what the Pokes will face this week against UNLV, who deploys a finesse running scheme.
The front has played more inspired football lately, and Wyoming has registered 16 sacks over the last five weeks after notching just three over the first three games.
We should see a decent amount of pressure from this unit, and Wyoming’s coverage unit has been relatively stout this season. UNLV is going to find it a lot harder this week to move the football compared to what we saw from them last week.

UNLV Rebels Betting Trends
UNLV has been in close, high-pressure games all season, and the last four have stressed this team in different ways. Last week, the defense struggled to register stops as NIU outgained the Rebels while racking up 493 yards.
Three of the last four opponents have exceeded 445 yards, and now this defense is banged up with several contributors listed as out or questionable for this contest against Wyoming.
Tre Fulton and Quandarius Keyes are out in the secondary, and Jake Pope and Avery Helm are questionable. Lucas Conti along the defensive line is also listed as questionable. This unit wasn’t strong anyway, but the personnel questions make this matchup with Wyoming very concerning if you like UNLV.
The offense has been up and down and a lack of consistency has been the Rebs’ biggest problem. Running back Jai’Den (Jett) Thomas has alternated between good and bad performances this season, and he is also listed on the injury report this week, listed as questionable.
Quarterback Jackson Arnold has played pretty good football when squaring up against bad defenses, but turnovers and inconsistent red-zone play have limited this offensive output.
Thomas would be a massive loss if he is unable to go, but UNLV also has a pair of offensive linemen and two tight ends whose participation status is up in the air. This is a banged-up group right now.

How To Make Wyoming vs UNLV Picks and Best Bets
UNLV opened this contest as a 7.5-point favorite, and the game was sharply bet down to 4.5. I did bet Wyoming earlier in the week, catching over a touchdown. The total has been bet up from 46.5 to 49.5. Wyoming is still playable at +4.5.
The Pokes are going to have major advantages along the offensive and defensive line, and Wyoming is going to move the football on this UNLV defense, similarly to how Northern Illinois did last week. UNLV is among the worst defenses in the country in stopping the run.
The Rebs have surrendered 670 rushing yards the last two weeks on 6.7 yards per carry, and the impending availability report is concerning. With Fulton out and Pope questionable, the Rebs might be down two of their three leading tacklers, which will be a problem for what is already a terrible tackling defense.
Hughes is going to run on this defense, and with such a concerted effort put on the UNLV defense in stopping the run, Wyoming actually should register some pass explosives against a very banged-up UNLV secondary.
I do not foresee UNLV getting stops in this game, and the activity in the backfield should be minimal. Wyoming will be on schedule, and the methodical drives should be there, even if the explosives are not.
UNLV will not be shut down offensively; it's foolish to assume that it would be. But Thomas is such a key piece of the offense, and if he is unable to go, or if he is limited in his participation, that is a big blow for the offense.
A pair of offensive linemen and both primary tight ends are also listed as questionable, which will further compound the issue. The UNLV offensive line is going to struggle here against Wyoming, and the big problem for UNLV has been situational execution.
We saw this play out last week and the majority of the season, as UNLV is only scoring touchdowns in the red zone 50% of the time. The Wyoming defense has stepped up regularly, and since the opener against Colorado State, the Pokes have allowed just eight red-zone touchdowns in 23 opponent trips.
This defense is excellent in coverage, they grade out well against the run, and they will provide problems for the Rebs offense in what figures to be a tight game. I'll take the points in a game I think Wyoming can win outright.
Pick: Wyoming +4.5 (-114)
