If you’ve ever doomscrolled through trade rumors at 2 a.m. or drafted a rage-filled post about your team’s latest fourth-quarter collapse, you’re not alone. NFL fan obsession doesn’t come with an off switch, and for some, it definitely doesn’t come with much sleep either.
Between heart-stopping games, shocking developments, and endless off-season dramas, NFL fan passion has a way of keeping you wired long after the final whistle. And while most of us should be getting some shuteye, certain NFL fan behavior is clearly so strong that it takes priority at all hours of the day and night.
And it turns out that there might be some science behind the madness. A study published in the journal SLEEP found that people with an obsessive passion for any activity tend to have worse sleep quality. So yes, staying up to debate your team’s offensive coordinator hire might be bad for your health; but you’re in good company!
So, with this in mind, we analyzed overnight social media activity from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. local time on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit using data from Brandwatch, tracking which teams in the past year had the most posts during those late-night hours to reveal who’s fans are up tossing, turning, and tweeting all night long (yes, we still call it “tweeting” because “X-ing” just doesn’t have the same ring to it)!
Take a look at what we found out below!

The most popular times to post across the NFL
There are clearly a lot of late-night NFL fans around, as social media posts are shared at all hours throughout the year. However, nine at night is the most popular time for proving NFL fan passion, with 472,460 posts shared during this period.
This is then closely followed by 8 p.m. (447,080 posts), 7 p.m. (442,940 posts) and 6 p.m. (436,480 posts), which shows that a lot of NFL social media activity takes place at a relatively decent hour.
But, with that being said, NFL fan obsession knows no bounds, and there were plenty of posts going up at 10 p.m. (393,960), 11 p.m. (380,420), midnight (393,140), 1 a.m. (380,700), and even at 2 a.m. (340,500)!
And when it comes to posts at 5 a.m. (158,520), 6 a.m. (89,380) and 7 a.m. (51,900), we’ll just have to give these fans the benefit of the doubt and assume they’re serious early birds rather than exhausted night owls.

Methodology
This campaign analyzes which NFL teams keep fans awake at night by tracking timestamped posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit from June 2024 to June 2025.
We monitored mentions of all 32 teams during typical sleep hours (11 p.m. and 7 a.m. local time), using team names, hashtags, and handles. Each post was localized to the team’s home time zone and the overall number of posts were acquired.
While not a direct measure of wakefulness, late-night fan activity provides a strong signal for teams that disrupt sleep the most.
Data was collected on June 1, 2025. Reddit data came from r/NFL and team subreddits; Twitter data was collected via API.
