Timberwolves vs Bulls NBA Preview
The Timberwolves entered Christmas riding a three-game winning streak. They rallied from multiple double-digit deficits in the second half, but could not complete the comeback in a 142-138 loss against Denver.
A bounce back was not in the cards on Saturday either despite returning home to take on the Nets as they lost by 16 points. They will look to snap their skid as they head to Chicago to begin a four-game road trip.
While the Timberwolves prefer home cooking, they have held their own away from home as they are 8-6 on the road this season.
Anthony Edwards has led that effort as he is averaging 32.9 points per game, six more than his average at the Target Center. Edwards will look to have another big game against the Bulls as well.
After a rocky stretch, the Bulls have won five of their last six games and have settled into the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Balanced scoring has led the way as Coby White (18.6 points per game) leads seven double-digit scorers in December. Josh Giddey has continued to fill up the stat sheet, averaging 18.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 9.1 assists.
His scoring has been down a bit as he has scored 12 and 13 points in his last two games while shooting 7-for-22 from the field. A sprained ankle might be part of the reason why, but he is probable for tonight's game.
Timberwolves vs Bulls Prediction, Betting Analysis
Minnesota has lost two straight games and Edwards was particularly frustrated with the officiating by the end of the Nuggets' game. However, tonight Edwards gets a great matchup to let off some frustration.
Chicago is 23rd in defensive rating and 26th in points allowed per game. It is also 19th in 3-pointers allowed per game and 21st in 3-point attempts allowed.
Edwards has taken advantage of the matchup himself as he has scored 38, 33, and 49 points in three of his last four games against the Bulls. He has scored 30 points in five of his last 10 games, going over 35 points in four of those games.
I expect Edwards to lead the way in helping Minnesota snap its losing streak, but I prefer his points line over the spread at 6.5 points.
Edwards should get some assistance from Naz Reid off the bench. Reid has made two 3-pointers in nine of his last 10 games, only failing to cover against the Thunder. He has made two triples in three of his last four games against the Bulls, who are 27th in 3-pointers to centers.
Minnesota is seventh in points allowed to shooting guards, but White has handled the matchup well.
He has scored 15 points in each of his last four games against the Timberwolves. He has also gotten to 15 in seven of his last 10 games and I like him to bounce back after being held under 20 points in consecutive games.
Pick: Anthony Edwards Over 30.5 Points (-115)
