One of the revelations of the NBA postseason has been the tremendous play of Jalen Brunson. The Mavericks guard is averaging a whopping 28.6 points across the five games thus far, eclipsing this line in each contest.
Of course, Brunson was relegated back to a secondary role with the return of Luka Doncic in Game 4. This has had an expected impact on the Villanova product’s usage, which has dropped from 33%, 33% and 35% in the first three games, to 29% in each game back with his All-Star teammate.
However, Doncic’s return to the lineup has not curbed Brunson’s aggressiveness. The fourth-year pro has maintained his 20+ drives per game (26, 22, 26, 21, 23 thus far in this series). To put this into context, only three players in the NBA averaged 20+ drives per game in the regular season: Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Ja Morant — all of whom averaged at least 24 points per game.
The Jazz have no defensive remedy to stop Brunson, especially with Doncic back in the fold. And in a potential close-out game, I expect another 36+ minutes for the slashing guard tonight. I have Brunson projected at 24 points.
Pick: Jalen Brunson Over 20.5 Points (-110 at FanDuel) | Playable up to 21.5.
