Las Vegas Raiders Betting Preview: Jeanty Bounce Back?

It seemed like Fernando Mendoza was primed to take over the starting quarterback job as the Raiders spiraled into a four-game losing streak. But a collapse by the Jets kept Kirk Cousins in the driver's seat, and the veteran is expected to start again on Sunday.

Despite the Raiders putting up 38 points, one storyline stole the headlines: Mike Washington Jr. handled 25 carries. Ashton Jeanty? Just two.

Could that be tied to Jeanty's comments about the Jets' lack of interest in tackling in the week leading up to the game? Possibly. But Jeanty has also been largely inefficient, averaging just 2.2 yards per carry over the previous three weeks.

The soft benching could serve as a wake-up call for Jeanty, although Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak still expects the workload split between Jeanty and Washington to vary week to week.

I expect Jeanty to get a much larger share of the carries today. Washington didn't exactly make the most of his opportunity, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry on 25 attempts against New York.

Despite a struggling run game, Cousins has kept the offense competitive. The Raiders rank sixth in the NFL in scoring at 27.6 points per game, with much of that production going through tight end Brock Bowers, who is averaging 91.2 receiving yards per game.

Tre Tucker has emerged as a reliable receiving option thanks to his speed, but the rest of the wide receiver room remains thin. Jalen Nailor has gradually settled into the WR2 role, while Jack Bech continues to work his way back from injury.

Defensively, the Raiders can't stop a nosebleed. Opponents have scored at least 30 points against Las Vegas in each of the last five weeks. The Raiders rank in the bottom three in both yards allowed per game (381.9) and points allowed per game (28.8).

San Francisco 49ers Betting Preview: Surprisingly Healthy

The 49ers' Week 8 bye came at the perfect time as they continue to deal with one of the most injury-riddled offenses in football.

After opening the season with six straight wins, San Francisco fell to Atlanta. Christian McCaffrey battled through an injury and missed a large portion of the game, while the 49ers were also without Deebo Samuel and Mike Evans.

Samuel and Evans are not expected to return Sunday, but the 49ers should get Demarcus Robinson back. McCaffrey also benefits from the extra rest and is good to go — a massive boost for an offense that runs through him.

Despite all the injuries, the 49ers' offense continues to hum. Brock Purdy is playing like an MVP candidate, and San Francisco ranks among the league's top five in scoring at 28.1 points per game.

However, it's the defense that has taken the biggest step forward this season.

Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw have elevated the linebacker group, while the midseason acquisition of DeForest Buckner gives the defensive line another dimension. Nick Bosa, who hasn't played since Week 2, also returns from injury today.

Allowing fewer than 20 points per game, San Francisco may finally have the pieces to chase that elusive Super Bowl trophy. When healthy, this team can be a force to be reckoned with.

Raiders vs 49ers Prediction, Betting Analysis

There are two props I like in this one. The first is ugly and comes with plenty of uncertainty, but I'm willing to take the risk.

I refuse to believe Klint Kubiak is going to make the same mistake twice and leave Ashton Jeanty behind Mike Washington Jr. on the depth chart. There's plenty of speculation surrounding this team, but Washington is not the answer. In fact, he's tied with Jacoby Brissett in broken tackles this season (one).

Jeanty is far more explosive than Washington, particularly as a pass catcher. Has the Raiders' run game been a problem all season? Absolutely.

But Jeanty's rushing yards prop set at 27.5 is simply too low for me to pass up. I'll hold my nose and back Jeanty, even with the Raiders entering as double-digit underdogs.

The second prop centers around Christian McCaffrey.

As always, the biggest concern with the superstar is injury risk. However, McCaffrey is coming off a bye week and got Wednesday off, which is standard treatment for many veteran players. He returned to practice Thursday and practiced in full on Friday.

The Raiders' run defense has been putrid. We just saw Braelon Allen average 7.0 yards per carry against them last week, marking the seventh consecutive week an opponent has rushed for at least 100 yards.

Las Vegas is currently allowing 5.31 yards per carry. Not only should the 49ers have plenty of success against this defense, but the game script could also lead to a more run-heavy approach.

McCaffrey is averaging 4.6 yards per carry and has cleared this rushing yards line (60.5) in all five games in which he's played at least 55% of the snaps.

Expect a fresher McCaffrey and plenty of success on the ground.

Pick: Ashton Jeanty Over 27.5 Rushing Yards | Christian McCaffrey Over 60.5 Rushing Yards
