Buffalo opened -1.5 and I have this closer to a true pick. Houston's front with Will Anderson Jr. and Derek Stingley Jr. has been Josh Allen's problem since before DeMeco Ryans got there, and Buffalo is the team in transition with Sean McDermott out, Joe Brady in, and Matt Milano and Taron Johnson gone off a defense that graded 20th in EPA. Jayden Higgins tore his ACL and is done for the year, which is a real hole behind Nico Collins, but Stroud has his healthy receivers this week and David Montgomery to take carries off him. I posted this at +106 and it's near even money now, so play it to -110 and pass below that.

My goal this week is to have a Prop of the Game for every matchup, and this gets me through the entire early slate. Week 1 is obviously a little different because the edge is naturally lower with so much uncertainty. A lot of people would rather just sit it out and wait for a full week of data, which is completely reasonable. Thats why Week 2 is always one of my favorite weeks. My edge this week is trying to use the last couple months of obsessively tracking camp, preseason, personnel moves, injuries and role changes to get ahead of a few things before we have that clean data. This is one of those spots.
When Jayden Higgins went down, Hutchinson looked like the obvious next man up as his direct backup. Then Houston traded for Kayshon Boutte, which made his role a lot murkier. I also think the Texans could lean into more 2TE looks after adding Foster Moreau and drafting Marlin Klein in the second round, while trying to fix a run game that was a disaster last year with David Montgomery now in the mix. The first thing I’ll be watching is who lines up across from Nico Collins on Houston’s first 2TE snap. If it’s Hutchinson, this under could be in trouble. If it’s Boutte, that would suggest the staff is already comfortable with him as the No. 2 WR, which is where I’m leaning. That could leave Hutchinson splitting 3WR snaps with Jaylin Noel, who I think is a better fit as the No. 3 alongside Nico/Boutte. I could easily see Hutchinson finishing 1/10/0 or 3/30/0, which is why I’d rather play Under 19.5 yards than pay -180 on Under 2.5 receptions. I have him closer to 17 yards with around a 58% chance to stay under. Wider range of outcomes than usual, but that’s kind of the entire Week 1 exercise.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that I love this under, seeing as I ranked the Bills 18th in my preseason power rankings and bet them to miss the playoffs.
I have huge doubts about everything in Buffalo outside of Josh Allen. DC Jim Leonhard's defense just isn't very talented, and I do not believe in their coaching or special teams. One man alone does not make a team.
Houston's run defense is elite and will not let Joe Brady's power run game dictate the pace.
While Allen is typically excellent against top defenses, he struggles mightily against Houston's man coverage. In 37 games over the last two years, Allen's games against the Texans rank 35th and 36th in dropback success rate. He even lost to Davis Mills last year!
This game just screams under. It's easy to imagine a cagey, playoff-like atmosphere.
Week 1 unders from 41 to 45.5 are 94-56-1 (64%). Allen road unders are 36-24-2 (60%), and C.J. Stroud home unders are an incredible 17-6 (74%). This is simply what both teams do in this spot.
I also think the wrong team is favored—I actually make this line Texans -4.
Historically, close lines don't necessarily mean close games. Since 2015, home 'dogs of less than 3 points have won outright 138 times — but in 84 of those wins (60%) were by a comfortable seven or more points.
Eight of Houston's 13 wins last season came by 7+ points. I'm skipping the +1.5; if we are going to be right, let's really be right.

There may be some value on the receptions prop for James Cook III. THE BLITZ is projecting him to record 2.31 receptions, and the oddsmakers are implying 3.28. The model believes there is a 62% chance he records fewer than 2.5 receptions. If you can get the under at +122 or better, there is some great value here. This play is good down to at least -116.
