New Jersey Sports Betting
NJ Online Sportsbooks & Promo Codes

New Jersey didn't just join the sports betting era, they started it. The Garden State spent the better part of a decade fighting the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) through the federal courts. When the Supreme Court struck PASPA down in May 2018, New Jersey was ready, and every state and sportsbook in the US followed their lead.
Eight years later, the New Jersey sports betting market is the most experienced in the country. With 14 licensed operators NJ can offer something so few other states can, competitive pricing, deep markets, faster payouts, and a breadth of sportsbooks and bonuses to choose from.

Not every New Jersey sports betting offer, seen above, is the same, and knowing how they can work for best for you is more important than any number.
A handful of New Jersey welcome offers are state-specific, Borgata, bet365 and even theScore bet. Operators know not only the depth of the Jersey market, but also with its sports betting tenure, their bonuses will reward the right players.
Combined bonuses are one of the specialties of NJ as well, letting you get both sportsbook and casino bonuses, a rarity in the US. Most other states only allow one kind of reward.
NJ bettors can get bonus funds to try their hand on multiple parts of their chosen sportsbook, all with house money, not your own hard earned cash.
What Types of Sports Bonuses Are There in NJ?
With so many sportsbook promos around you can afford to spread your bonuses around, you can sign up for multiple sportsbooks if you wish, with a wealth of bonus bets on offer. Why not try your hand with a few different operators to kickstart your New Jersey sports betting journey.
Even for experienced bettors, the way sportsbook bonuses work can be confusing. From qualifying wagers, to settlements, credits and playthrough requirements.
Below is how each offer type actually pays out, and who each one suits.
Bet and Get
This is the simplest sports book promo structure in New Jersey. Place a qualifying bet, and get bonus bets. The most common offer type in the state, and the one new player may wish to try out first, just to get a feel for the process.
There are three distinct types of bet-and-get bonus offers in NJ. Our expert will now break them down for you below.
Guaranteed bet-and-get:
Make your qualifying wager ($5 or $10) and regardless of the outcome get your bonus bets.
For example DraftKings, bet $5 and get $150 in bonuses, pays out win or lose. Stake $5 on any market with odds of -550 or greater, and $150 in bonus bets arrives regardless of the result.
Win-only bet-and-get:
Place your qualifying wager ($5 or $10) and if it wins, the sportsbook will give you your bonus bets.
BetMGM's, bet $10 Get $150 in Bonus Bets if You Win, is a perfect example of this. It requires the qualifying bet to land. Lose the bet and you get nothing.
We placed the $10 qualifying wager on BetMGM at -350 odds; the $150 in bonus bets posted within 3 minutes of the bet settling, split into three $50 credits.
Combined bet-and-get:
A combined offer pays out across both the sportsbook and the casino from a single qualifying wager. bet365's NJ-exclusive gives $150 in bonus bets win or lose plus 50 casino spins for instance.
As one of a few states with these offers, new NJ players are lucky, they can get two sets of bonuses rather than one. Something other sports bettors in the US miss out on.
Why use a Bet-and-Get offer?
Bet-and-gets can suit any player, and particularly anyone opening their first New Jersey account. The qualifying stake is often small and the payout is certain, with the guaranteed ones. Bonus bets in your account to try your hand, regardless.
What could be a better place to start, especially in NJ where combined bet-and-gets open up the play field even more.
Tips for using a Bet-and-Get New Jersey Sportsbook Promo
- If playing a bet and get offer, you may wish to go low with your initial bet
- Especially if you are playing one of the win-only bet-and-get offers
- These promotions often carry a minimum odds requirement around -200 or -500.
- Taking the shortest permitted price maximizes your chance of triggering the bonus, even if the winnings are small
- The prize is the bonus bets here, not the winnings
- Any bonuses will come through with a 1x playthrough, they cannot be withdrawn as real cash, winnings from them can be
Safety Net Bets
A safety net offer refunds your first bet in bonus bets if it loses.
An example of this is BetRivers' 2nd Chance Bet. Stake up to $250 and lose, and $250 lands back in your account as a bonus bet.
Why use a Safety Net Bet offer?
Anyone looking to take a big swing from day one. If you are opening an account with $250 to put behind a Week 1 NFL play anyway, a safety net gives you a second chance. This back up can be crucial when opening an account, keeping your balance healthy.
If you’re looking for a smaller entry point, more casual bettors, then the bet-and-get is perhaps a better place to start.
Tips and Tricks for Using Safety Net Sportsbook Promotions
- Make sure you are claiming the full amount - don’t leave bonuses on the table, if you lose maximize the bonus bets you are getting back
- Your stake will not be returned to you as real cash, it can’t be withdrawn
- It will come back to you as bonus bets with a 1x playthrough, if you win using these they can then be withdrawn
How to make the most of your New Jersey Sportsbook Promo
As with any sportsbook offers there are a few things you need to keep your eye on. So you don’t accidentally miss out on claiming an offer, or to make the most of your bonus funds. This information can always be found in the promos T&Cs.
- Promo Code - Make sure to use the listed promo code, if there is one. Missing this step could make you ineligible for the sportsbook bonuses
- Expiry date - Most bonus bets expire after 7 days, some stretch to 30 days but this rare
- Bet types - some offers must be placed on a specific sport or market. Sometimes a Same-game or multi-game-parlay is required, but this will be clearly labelled.
- Qualifying wager - Make sure you meet the qualifying wager odds and amount. A mishap here could mean you can’t get the bonus, check the T&Cs before.
- Opt-In - You may have to toggle the offer to active in your betslip before placing the qualifying wager
Are There Any Promos for All NJ Players?
New Jersey's existing-customer promotions, one’s for all players new or old, are considerably better than most other states. With widespread sportsbooks, NJ players are seeing the benefits of eight years in the sphere, with valuable and timely promotions and bonuses with virtually all sportsbooks.
Early Payouts
Early Payout simply means that your bet can be paid out as a winner before the game finishes, because one side has pulled out such an impressive lead on the other. This only applies to pre-event moneyline wagers.
bet365 runs a version of this across the major leagues in the US:
- NFL - 17 Points Ahead
- NBA - 20 Points Ahead
- MLB - 5 Runs Ahead
- NHL - 3 Goals Ahead
- Soccer - 2 Goals Ahead
In practice, bet on the NY Giants pre game. If they pull out a 17-point cushion, it will not only be impressive, but it will trigger your bet to payout as a winner. Even if the Giants go on to lose the game, the wager still counts as a win.
For single wagers the bet will settle as a winner. If it is part of a parlay, then that leg/selection will count as a winner, the rest of the parlay continuing on.
Not only can you land an early winner on your Sunday ticket, you can avoid the heartbreak of a late game rally or comeback. Your bet is still a winner, once your backed side crosses that points threshold.
Price and Odds Boosts
Looking for the best prices around, well price and odds boosts are what you want to be on the lookout for then. Many sportsbooks will boost the odds of some player props or other selections in line with major events, Super Bowls, NBA Champions and many more.
Make sure to shop around between the sportsbooks for the best prices anyway, but a profit boost can often take this to another level. DraftKings, bet365 and BetMGM are well known for offering these types of promotions, available to all players.
But some other sportsbooks, including FanDuel will boost their pre-built parlays as well. The best prices are out there for New Jersey bettors, it just takes some shopping around. The best prices means the best payouts if it's land, keep those eyes peeled.
Player Props Insurance and Fair Play Policies
Ever lose a bet because the player you backed picked up an injury and had to go off? Yes, so have we. Sportsbooks have seen this however, and have given us a way to cover our backs now.
Fanatics fair play policy is one of the best examples of this running its Fair Play concept along, refunding or voiding wagers when a player prop fails due to injury, before a certain point in the game.
This according to the following rules:
- NFL / Pro Football: Covers injuries occurring during the entire first half (2nd quarter protection).
- NBA Regular Season: Covers injuries occurring in the first quarter.
- NBA Playoffs: Expanded to cover the entire first half.
- MLB / Baseball: Pitchers must throw at least one pitch but leave before recording three outs; hitters must be before the third innings.
- NHL / Hockey: Injuries must happen during the first period.
- Tennis & Golf: Applies if a player retires mid-match or withdraws prior to completing the second round
Single wagers will be refunded as bonus bets, while legs of parlays will be voided and calculated to progress without the selection in it. Other sportsbooks have variations of this, including bet365, but be sure to check before wagering. This can often be the difference between a loss or win, marking it as one of the best existing customer promos in the state of New Jersey.
New Jersey Sportsbooks Gambling Overview
Is Sports Betting Legal in NJ?
Yes. New Jersey legal sports betting has operated since June 2018 at retail and August 2018 online, and it is among the most thoroughly regulated markets in the United States.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), part of the Office of the Attorney General, licenses operators, approves markets. The Casino Control Commission handles certain casino licensing decisions alongside it.
You must be 21 or older to open an account or place a bet in New Jersey, online or in person. Registration requires your:
- Legal name
- Date of birth
- Residential address
- Phone number
- Social Security number, the last four digits at most books, the full number at some.
Where automated verification fails, expect to upload a government photo ID and sometimes a proof of address.
What is it not legal to bet on in NJ?
Betting on college teams from New Jersey is not legal. Even if it’s being played elsewhere. While Rutgers is the only FBS football team in New Jersey, there is a host of Division I basketball programs with lines on their games, including Fairleigh Dickinson, Monmouth, NJIT, Princeton, Rider, Saint Peter’s and Seton Hall.
There is no betting on college events taking place in New Jersey. Any neutral-site games, NCAA Tournament, bowl games, etc., happening in New Jersey cannot be wagered on. New Jersey does not frequently host NCAA Tournament regionals, and there are no active college bowl games there as of 2026.
Betting on high school games is not allowed in New Jersey, nor anywhere else in the US
How Do I Start Sports Betting in NJ?
The process to get started with sports betting is remarkably easy, and with all sportsbook promos designed for new players the whole process folds into one making everything simple for all new NJ customers.
If signing up for a promotion follow the below steps for signing up with an NJ sportsbook precisely. If skipping a bonus bets offer, ignore those specific steps but the rest will still help you get started with sports betting.
- Be 21+ and in New Jersey.
- Pick a sportsbook and download the app. Use a direct link from above. Register through the app rather than mobile web where possible, as with some New Jersey promotions are app-only.
- Register and verify. Use your legal name, date of birth, residential address, phone number, email and Social Security number. Automated verification usually clears in under two minutes. You may be asked to upload a photo ID.
- Use your promo code. Enter a promo code at this stage if your sportsbook promo requires one; most do.
- Enable location services. On a phone, allow the app to access your location. On desktop, you'll be prompted to install a geolocation plugin GeoComply. Neither is optional, part of checking you are in NJ.
- Deposit. Make your first deposit. Check the minimum deposit required to trigger your sportsbook bonus before you fund the account.
- Place your qualifying bet. Check the minimum odds requirement against your selection and required wager
- Set your limits. Before you place a second bet, check out the responsible gambling settings and set a deposit limit. It takes ninety seconds and it's the only step on this list that protects you rather than the sportsbook.
- Start Playing. You’re done, explore your chosen sportsbook to your heart’s content, even spread your play with another if comfortable with the sign-up steps already.
These steps have been refined across the eight years that the Garden State has had sports gambling offering one of the smoothest and easiest processes to their players. Some things only come with experience.
Can I Visit NJ to Bet on Sports?
Yes. Anyone 21 or over can bet legally in New Jersey regardless of where they live, as long as they are physically inside the state when the wager is placed. Residency is irrelevant. Being there is everything.
Visitors to the Garden state are able to place wagers. Be you from New York, Pennsylvania or further afield, you simply have to be physically present to sports bet in New Jersey. This applies to both casinos and mobile betting apps.
With Atlantic City, multiple horse racing tracks and even some other sportsbooks retail locations, you can get the full NJ sports betting experience if you wish, online or in-person. And with NJ’s tenure you’re being looked after by the most experienced betting infrastructure in the country
All you need to do is:
- Cross into New Jersey.
- Open the app.
- Already have an account? If they are licensed in both states, (NJ and Home-state) it will work with the same login, same balance, no new registration.
- If you're signing up fresh, download the app while in New Jersey, register with your real home address (a New York address is fine)
- Complete identity verification, deposit, and bet.
The one thing that can often trip New Yorkers and other visitors up: leaving the state doesn't void a bet you've already placed. Your wager stands and settles normally. You just can't place a new one until you're back across the line.

Which NJ Sportsbook Should I Use?
Fanatics Sportsbook
Fanatics is a newer sportsbook, at least compared with NJ’s tenure, having launched by acquiring PointsBet's US business. It stands apart in the sports betting world due to FanCash, a rewards currency earned on wagering that can be spent on merchandise as well as bets, genuinely useful if you buy Devils, Giants gear, or any other big sports fans.
Its Fair Play insurance promotion on player props is the standout feature for New Jersey bettors, helping to save thousands of wagers every weekend. Market breadth is narrower than the market leaders and the app is newer, but the odds are always competitive and the promotions offer some great value to players both new and existing.

BetMGM
Anchored to Borgata in Atlantic City, which gives it the strongest retail-to-online integration in New Jersey, you can deposit at the Borgata cage and bet on your phone immediately after.
On pricing, BetMGM is more competitive than the two market leaders on NBA and NHL sides, which makes it a sensible second account for anyone betting the Devils, Nets or Knicks regularly. Player props are priced less generously. Its daily odds boosts are among the more genuinely useful in the state.
Its rewards program ties into MGM's wider hospitality ecosystem, which is worth real money. Having launched in NJ in 2018, eight years of MGM rewards could stack nicely, especially with AC and the Borgata Hotel and Casino on your doorstep.

FanDuel
The closest thing New Jersey has to a hometown book. Its retail sportsbook sits inside the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, a few hundred yards from MetLife Stadium, which makes it the pre-game stop for anyone heading to a Giants or Jets home game.
The app is the most stable in the market and its interface is the one most bettors find easiest to learn. The same-game parlay builder in particular offers one of the simplest and easiest in the whole US.

theScore Bet launched on December 1, 2025, replacing ESPN BET across PENN Entertainment's US footprint. New Jersey players may remember but don’t worry as accounts transferred across automatically, with balances, open wagers and responsible gaming settings intact.
The app inherits theScore's media DNA, and the integration between news, scores and betting is the smoothest in the market for anyone who wants to follow and wager in one place. Caesars is a top player in the sports betting industry and has been for some time. While most people think of the Palace, New Jersey sports betting fans can find Caesars on their phone whenever they want. Borgata Sportsbook
Borgata runs as MGM's second New Jersey skin under the same Borgata casino license. Functionally it shares much of BetMGM's infrastructure, but it maintains its own promos and bonuses and for New Jersey bettors that is the point, because Borgata's offers are frequently state-exclusive in a way BetMGM's are not.

How Do I Know If an NJ Sportsbook Is Legit?
Every sportsbook in this article holds a license from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. All on this list have been extensively tested testing by our team for their reliability.
If you want to check for yourself, all licensed New Jersey operators appear on the DGE's public list. They must display their license details in the app footer, and must be tied to a New Jersey casino licensee. If a site takes New Jersey customers and isn't on that list, it is offshore.
What about using offshore sites from New Jersey?
Offshore sites offer no protection to NJ sports bettors. They are not licensed in New Jersey, they are not accountable to the DGE. If they void your winning bet under a terms clause you've never seen, there is no help.
Unregulated and generally unsafe, with a wealth of sportsbooks at your fingertips in the Garden State, you don’t need to and shouldn’t try an offshore site.
Have any sportsbooks launched or exited NJ recently?
There have been a few new entrants recently with ESPN Bet becoming theScore Bet on 1 December 2025.
Prophet Exchange exited in May 2024. Earlier departures included WynnBET, Betway and Unibet, all of which withdrew from US sports betting entirely. Another reason to back those operators with physical New Jersey properties. A book with a casino in Atlantic City is far less likely to leave than one with only a license, something that other states cannot rely on.
What Does Sports Betting Look Like in NJ?
American odds are the default across every New Jersey sportsbook, and they use a plus or minus sign to tell you two things at once: who's the favorite or the underdog, and what the bet pays.
A minus number is a favorite and tells you how much you must stake to win $100.
- A team at -150 requires a $150 stake to return $100 in profit.
A plus number is an underdog and tells you what a $100 stake returns in profit.
- A team at +180 returns $180 profit on $100 staked.
Your stake (original wager) comes back on top of any winning return.
House rules vary between New Jersey books and matter more than most people check. What happens to a bet if a game is postponed, how a starting-pitcher condition works in baseball, whether overtime counts toward a player prop, when a market is voided rather than settled all of it sits in the operator's terms, all of it differs, and all of it decides real money. Read the rules for the sport you bet most.
Sports Betting Example for NJ - NJ Devils to win the Stanley Cup
Say the New Jersey Devils are priced at +3500 to win the Stanley Cup, and you place $2.
That plus figure tells you a $100 stake would return $3,500 in profit, so your $2 returns $72, ($70 profit + $2 stake).
For the bet to land, the Devils must win the Stanley Cup outright.
Not reach the Final. Not win the Metropolitan Division. Not go deep and lose in seven.
The bet pays if and only if the Devils lift the Cup. Your $2 is committed from the moment you place it until the Cup is decided, potentially eight or nine months later.
That's the trade in a futures bet: a small stake, a large multiple, a long lock-up, and a single narrow path to a return.
Common Sports Betting Markets in NJ
- Moneyline - a straight bet on who wins. The simplest market on the board and where most bettors start.
- Point spread - the favorite gives up a set margin and the underdog receives it, leveling the market to roughly even odds. A -6.5 favorite must win by seven or more.
- Totals (over/under) - a bet on the combined score of both teams finishing above or below the line (number of points), regardless of who wins.
- Player props - wagers on an individual's performance, such as passing yards, TDs scored or three-pointers made.
- Team props - the same idea applied to a team, such as first team to score, total team rebounds, or whether a side scores a TD in both halves.
- Futures - long-term bets on outcomes decided later in the season, like a Stanley Cup or Super Bowl winner.
- Multi-Game-Parlays - multiple selections from different games combined into one bet where every leg must win. The payout multiplies, but every leg must land.
- Same-Game-Parlays - parlays built from legs within a single game, Again the potential winnings grow, but every selection must win
- Live / in-play - markets that update continuously during a game, letting you bet on a shifting price after the event has started.

Are there any New Jersey Sports Gambling Rules and Regulations?
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement sets and enforces the rules covered here, alongside the Casino Control Commission on certain licensing matters.
New Jersey's framework, competitive multi-operator licensing rather than a state monopoly, remote registration without an in-person signup requirement, online casino alongside sports betting, and a low barrier to operator entry, became the template that Pennsylvania, Michigan, Colorado, Arizona and most states built from.
New Jersey is the reason the American market looks the way it does, and it remains the benchmark other regulators are measured against.
The New Jersey sports betting market is large, and long established, which is good news for sports bettors.
New Jersey generated $1.15 billion in online sports betting revenue in 2025 alongside $2.91 billion in digital casino revenue, with over 95% of all sports wagers placed online rather than at retail. May 2026 alone saw $912.9 million in handle.
By June 2026, internet gaming win reached $271.0 million against $257.3 million for all nine Atlantic City casino floors combined, online gambling is now the largest gambling business in the state.
All this means is that the brands operating here are established businesses with years of settled payouts behind them rather than start-ups testing a model. For a New Jersey sports bettor, that combination of genuine choice, deep markets, meaningful promotions, and trusted operators with a track record, is about as good as the American market gets.
Is There Responsible Gambling in New Jersey?
Yes, in fact the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline that appears in gambling advertising across the United States originated in New Jersey it is the CCGNJ's helpline, and it has served as a resource across much of the US for decades Most Americans who have seen a betting ad have read a New Jersey nonprofit's phone number without knowing it.
Helpline and support resources for NJ Residents
The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) is a private nonprofit that operates the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline, free and confidential, available 24 hours a day.
You can reach it at 1-800-GAMBLER around the clock, online at 800gambler.org, by email at ccgnj@800gambler.org.
National options sit alongside it. The National Council on Problem Gambling operates a confidential helpline and chat service at 1-800-522-4700. Gamblers Anonymous runs support groups statewide, reachable in New Jersey at 1-855-222-5542.
Every licensed New Jersey operator is required to offer account controls. Under the Casino Control Act's internet gaming provisions, operators must give players ways to control their account, including deposit limits and temporary suspension.
If you wish to check these our, open your account settings, find the responsible gambling or limits section, and set a deposit limit per day, week or month.
Most books also offer loss limits, wager limits, session time limits and reality-check notifications. Limits take effect immediately when tightened; loosening one requires a cooling-off period, which is the point.
How self-exclusion works in NJ
The DGE runs New Jersey's self-exclusion program in collaboration with the CCGNJ, covering internet gaming as well as land-based casino gambling.
You can enroll in person or by video call for full exclusion from all Atlantic City casinos and sports betting facilities including online, or register through the DGE website or directly in your player account for exclusion from internet gaming and sports betting only.
New Jersey's infrastructure is the most developed in the country, and what the rest of America responsible gambling is based on.
If you are worried about your own gambling or someone else's, call 1-800-GAMBLER. It's free, confidential, and staffed around the clock.
