Buffalo vs UMass Pick
The path has been cleared for Buffalo to make a run at the MAC title.
Ohio has a conference loss, and Toledo has two conference losses. Those were the other two major MAC contenders.
All the Bulls have to do is tap it in. They’re 2-0 in league play and just had a well-timed bye week. Head coach Pete Lembo can leave his mark on the program this season.
And that all starts this week against UMass. I’m laying the 17 with Buffalo.
The Bulls have the top rushing offense and the top-rated run-blocking offensive line in the MAC, per PFF. Meanwhile, UMass ranks 97th nationally in Rush Success Rate allowed and 109th in EPA per Play allowed.
Buffalo is going to pound the rock, achieving success and early downs, which will keep the playbook open on late downs.
UMass will be in huge trouble when Buffalo runs play-action passes off its run game. The Bulls will take some deep shots with Nik McMillan and Victor Snow, while UMass is the worst coverage team in the MAC and will be overly focused on stopping Al-Jay Henderson.
The deep shots should connect this week for Buffalo. The run game will be humming. The offense is going to create explosives.
On the other side of the ball, Buffalo ranks second in the MAC in PFF’s Pass Rush grades, second in its Tackling grades, and third in its Run Defense grades. At the same time, UMass ranks among the bottom 10 FBS teams in Rush Success Rate, Early Downs success Rate, and Havoc allowed — the Minutemen are averaging under seven points per game against FBS opponents.
I think Buffalo blows UMass out on Saturday.
Pick: Buffalo -17 (-110, bet365)
