Finding value in the NBA totals market is all about identifying pace, defensive coverages, and regression spots. I've looked at the numbers for tonight's slate and narrowed it down to my favorite over/under spots on the board.

Let's get into my NBA total predictions and over/under picks for Wednesday, October 21.

This pairing has one of the highest expected totals in Wednesday's 11-game slate. It's hard to see these teams combining for 240 points or more when both sides finished the 2026-27 season with bottom-six scoring offenses.

Milwaukee was second-to-last with 110.6 points per game last year, and has since parted ways with three of its top-five scorers on a points-per-game basis. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis are with the Miami Heat, while Kevin Porter Jr. was waived ahead of the Bucks' season opener.

It's not clear what Milwaukee will look like defensively on the perimeter, but Myles Turner remains a force on the interior as a rejection artist. Washington's big men boast more impressive defensive ceilings, though.

Trae Young is a defensive liability, but Washington's frontcourt has plenty of rim protection with Anthony Davis and Alex Sarr manning the fort. That shot-blocking duo will make it difficult for the Bucks to find easy looks at the rim. Then there's Bilal Coulibaly, who has flown under the radar as of late as a strong perimeter defender in recent years.

Both teams will have to iron out some kinks on offense as they develop chemistry, so this game doesn't appear to have the makings of a barn burner on paper.  The home team has the tools to build a comfortable lead while stifling the opposition's offense.

The under hit in 63.4% of Milwaukee's road games in 2026-27. Only the Dallas Mavericks topped that mark.

The Bucks should have a tougher time putting the ball in the basket in enemy territory without a true superstar at their disposal.

Pick: Under 238.5 (-110 — FanDuel)

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Miami Heat Over/Under Pick

Two of the seven teams that averaged more than 118.0 points per game last season will face off in this matchup.

Lack of star power didn't stop Erik Spoelstra from creating a Heat offense that ranked second overall in points per game (120.9) during the regular season with Bam Adebayo. Now he's added a much more dominant offensive force in Antetokounmpo to the fray alongside the outside shooting of Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr.

Spoelstra will scheme up plenty of looks for Antetokounmpo, and his gravity will provide plenty of spacing for the Heat's snipers. Minnesota also made a huge offseason acquisition, though.

The Timberwolves have gifted Anthony Edwards an All-Star backcourt partner in LaMelo Ball, who stands out as one of the league's most creative playmakers.

Ball can help unlock the potential of a Timberwolves team that went over in 55.3% of its road games last year by creating opportunities for his teammates with his dynamic passing. However, Ball could also be too risky on the defensive end.

Ball can come up with steals in big moments, but is known to ball-watch and is prone to off-ball defensive lapses. Miami can and will exploit that weakness, despite Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert being in the mix.

Miami will be looking to get points quickly in transition after leading the league in team possessions per game (107.0) last season to maximize Antetokounmpo.

Ball and Edwards combined for 19.1 three-point attempts per contest last season, so there will likely be no shortage of long rebounds if those don't fall. If they do, there's still plenty to love about the over here.

Pick: Over 239.5 (-108 — BetMGM)
