BYU Cougars Betting Preview: Out-Of-The-Blue Cougars in for Toughest Challenge Yet
Many wrote the Cougars off after last year's quarterback Jake Retzlaff was kicked off the team and transferred to Tulane.
Enter freshman Bear Bachmeier, who's been outstanding thus far in his first year in Provo.
The youngster is completing nearly 70% of his passes, has thrown just one interception to seven touchdowns and is also a significant threat in the running game, where he's already found the end zone five times with his legs.
Perhaps most impressively, Bachmeier has looked completely unfazed by road environments, playing two of his best games of the year at East Carolina and at Colorado.
While there's a new face at signal caller, there's also a key veteran presence in the backfield for the BYU offense.
LJ Martin is in his third year as a key cog at running back for the Cougars, and thus far in 2025, he's averaging over six yards per carry and showing even more explosiveness than in prior seasons.
Kalani Sitake-coached teams have always been opportunistic on defense, and this year is no different. Through five games, the Cougars have already forced nine turnovers, and they're wreaking havoc in opposing backfields.
This is a team that was a tiebreaker away from playing in the Big 12 title game last season, and it looks poised to threaten for a Big 12 Championship once again.
Winning in Tucson would give BYU another key road league win and move it to 3-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall.
This will likely be the toughest test to date, and it'll be interesting to see if the defense can contain a dynamic Arizona offense led by veteran quarterback Noah Fifita.
Continuing to generate takeaways would go a long way in helping BYU secure another road win, in a game that likely comes down to the wire.

Arizona Wildcats Betting Preview: Fifita Giving Wildcats Hope
After a very disappointing 2024 season, the Wildcats are off to a solid start in 2025.
Quarterback Noah Fifita chose to come back instead of entering the transfer portal, where he would've been highly coveted by plenty of Power Four programs.
That decision immediately gave this locker room a sense of belief and likely led to some other key players returning. The only loss for the Wildcats was in Ames to Iowa State, and Brent Brennan's team has taken out Hawaii, Weber State, Kansas State and Oklahoma State at home.
Saturday marks an opportunity for Arizona to get its first signature win of the season against a BYU team ranked inside the top 20 nationally.
To do exactly that, the Wildcats must continue to be solid on the defensive side of the ball.
That unit really struggled a season ago, and opposing offenses generally scored at will against the Wildcats. It's looked much better thus far this year, minus the Iowa State game, where Rocco Becht was able to take advantage of the Zona secondary down the field.
Bachmeier and company also have some downfield capabilities, so this will be a good litmus test of where exactly this defense is at.
When the Wildcats have the ball, finding a balance with the running game will be crucial to take some pressure off Fifita.
The veteran signal caller typically takes good care of the ball, which will be key in this one, and he'll also likely need to use his legs to extend some plays and then find an open man or run for a key first down.

BYU vs Arizona Pick, Betting Analysis
I expect this matchup to come right down to the wire, so I don't see a ton of value on either side in a coin-flip game. I think there's plenty of betting value on the total, given that both offenses have real matchup advantages in this game.
With the number still sitting sub-50, there's plenty of paths to an over with two of the best quarterbacks in the conference exchanging blows.
Additionally, each offense has skill players capable of home run threats down the field, and big plays are always music to an over bettor's ears.
Give me over 48.5 in what should be a fun late-night battle in Tucson.
